the hotel maxim suggests i drive into the restricted zone- OK?

We are staying at the Hotel Maxim in August. They suggest we drive right to the hotel. I'm toldthe hotel is in the restricted driving area and I will be photographed but the hotel will supply the license number to the traffic police such that I don't get a ticket. They said they have a garage that will park our car. Has anyone done this and not gotten a ticket? Would we be better off parking at a lot outside the resticted driving zone? Thank you!

If the hotel can give you that much detail and say they have it all worked out, I would believe them. Good hotels have zero interest in their guests getting ticketed -- bad for business -- especially if they offer their guests parking. You didn't say which town, but not sure it matters if the hotel explicitly says it's OK. Mathew

Thank you very much for all the information! It sounds like as long as I follow up with my hotel, I can rest easy.
The analogy of parking in Moscow, ID to visit Spokane,WA made me laugh. That would require a belief that anyone visits Spokane for reasons other than coming for a family event and that those people have heard of Moscow, ID. It would also require being able to commute between those cities on something other than a borrowed tractor.

Last summer we stayed at a hotel in Como that was located in the ZTL section. They notified the authorities and took care of removing our license plate from the system. I questioned them several times and they reassured me each time. They did as they said they would and I never received a ticket. If the hotel is telling you they will accommodate you with this situation I would take them at their word and trust them. Buon viaggio,

The hotel is in Florence and it is not that I don't trust the hotel, I have heard wonderful things about the hotel. Everyone I know has taken trains but I am driving a car and have heard horror stories about the ticketing in the no driving zone and how difficult it is to have a ticket removed after your car is photographed. I was hoping someone could tell me that they have been photographed and it did not result in a problem.

The hotel is responsible for reporting your plate to the authorities to avoid being ticketed. Double check with them on your arrival that they have done so and the dates for it and you will be fine. But keep in mind that sometimes you must take a specific route to get to the hotel and it can be easy to get lost and circle around some. Any ZTL fines incurred outside of your hotel's authority are your responsibility.

The instructions from city of Firenze (Florence) on how to do this: "Tourists in cars who need to travel within the ZTL to reach their accommodation facilities or a garage can obtain a temporary access permit, although they should still pass through the authorized 'access points' only, excluding the lanes reserved for public transport and the pedestrian zones which may not be used at any time. In order to obtain this permit, the number plate of the car concerned should be given to the relevant hotel (or garage) which will undertake to forward the same to the appropriate office." Good luck on this.
