The Borromeo Islands

Our last 2 days in Italy will be in Gallarate (close to the airport). We are going to go to Stresa to visit the Borromeo Islands. I was hoping to get some information on getting to the islands such as where to purchase tickets for the ferry and or Islands and recommendations or advice.
I actually wanted to visit the toy and doll museum but I am not sure where that is located, from what I have read it is not on one of the Islands?

Also any suggestions as where to eat in Gallarate would also be appreciated. Thanks

The ferry for the Borromeo Islands is very easy. Look for the white building at the ferry dock to purchase the tickets. It’s almost directly across the street from the Hotel Milan Speranza Au Lac.

I’m not sure about a toy museum. I know there’s marionettes on Isola Madre. I haven’t been to that island - only Isola Bella & Isola Pescatori multiple times. I’ve also enjoyed Villa Taranto’s gardens and Santa Caterina del Sasso - both reachable by ferries in opposite directions.

The ferry schedule is here. You can purchase ferry tickets at the docks. I believe there is a package for the three islands.

I believe the doll museum you speak of is in Angera, which is reachable by ferry but would require transport from the dock to the museum. It is possible to take the train to Arona, a short ferry ride across to Angera, then a long ferry ride to Stresa/Borromean Islands, but you would have to check the schedule as there is limited ferry service from Angera heading north. You didn't state if you have a car or not which would change the logistics a bit.
