Thanks for help with Florence ! Now where do you suggest we stay in Sienna?

The forum helped me to get off the fence and decide on a hotel in Florence ( ok...we splurged a bit ) We have planned 5 nights in Florence. As we like to minimize travel time, and as we want to get our fill of Tuscany's landscape, we think 3 nights in Sienna may be justified as we can take Rick's trip around the heart of Tuscany and visit hill towns he recommended.

We like to stay in a 3-4 star place, air conditioned, satellite TV. We would consider apartments as well. Any informed suggestions?

We stayed at the Palazzo Rivizza. It was a beautiful hotel. Checks off all your boxes. We drove to Sienna from Florence and stayed here as a home base for all our hilltown exploring. Easy walk to see all the Sienna sights. It is within the walls of Sienna but the hotel does have parking and they will notify the authorities so there's no ZTL charge. It's a good choice.

Wow..thank you. It is difficult to decide on a hotel so we always look for some "hook". In Florence, it was the river. The garden with that view is certainly a hook !

BTW, if you are still reading this post, how was your drive from Florence? I am a bit intimidated to drive there.

Two years ago we spent five nights in the Hotel Athena and were very satisfied with the property, It's located about a ten minute walk from the Piazza Del Campo and close to several good restaurants.

Buon viaggio,

Sorry for the delay. We drove from Florence to Siena and then from Siena to all the hilltowns. I was extremely nervous leading up to the actual drive out of Florence but once I did it I realized there was nothing to worry about. It was quite easy. Watch you speed driving through the countryside. As far as the Palazzo Ravizza. I could have sat all day in the gardens overlooking the countryside. It was beautiful. The hotel staff is welcoming and helpful for restaurant tips and day trips.
