Just returned from a month in the Chianti region of Italy and I would be totally remiss if I did not take a moment to thank the people who offer their advice and assistance via this travel forum. Although I only posted one inquiry about trains and vaporettos in Venice, I spent the six months leading up to our trip studying the questions posted and the advice given and I can tell you that the knowledge I gathered here was tremendously beneficial.

If I were to offer one tip to anyone considering a trip to Italy it would be, "Ask these folks. They know their stuff." Oh, and another would be, "Slow down and enjoy Italy. You really don't have to do everything. In fact, you will enjoy your time there more if you DON'T try to do everything."

I totally agree! Love the advice and recommendations I always find here. I am planning my 3rd trip overseas and this place is my favorite resource.

And wow-a month in Italy, that sounds amazing. We had 10 days and loved every second of it. Want to go back and spend more time like you did! :)

so happy you had a fabulous time in italy. it pays to do research and ask questions here on this forum, they know their stuff. the idea of questions and answers are to help you not stress and be a scatter brain,
your tip about "slow down and enjoy" makes me laugh. some travelers just don't get it, plan by hour or minute where they will be and become so oblivious they have no clue where they are or what they saw.
since you are back when's your next trip?? haha enjoy your holiday

I'm so glad you had a great time! I'm glad you learned the value of "La Dolce Far Niente".

When I look back on our trips, the most memorable parts have been the quiet, unexpected moments. It is really hard to build in down time when you know there's never enough time to do everything you want to do.

The other hard thing for us all is to be spontaneous, to abandon plans already made to embrace an unexpected opportunity. Our dream would be to spend a month in Paris and a month in Rome with absolutely no predetermined schedules.
