Thank You Helpline Contributors

Please let me take a moment to thank all of you who write comments on this site. I just returned from 11 glorious days in Rome, Tuscany, the Cinque Terre and Paris with my wife and her mother, who turned 83 on our arrival in Rome. In planning this trip for us I took Rick's advice about researching EVERYTHING I could get my hands on, but in reality it was what I learned from the hours of reading here, FROM ALL OF YOU, that made our trip a success. Granted, Rick Steves is good, but his perspective is that of a tour guide. Yours, and now mine, is from that of the traveling public. I hope that in the coming months and years I too can make a small contribution to helping someone else have a vacation as great as ours. My reward for all the hard work...my mother-in-law hugging me in Paris and saying "this is truly the trip of a lifetime for me. I'll never be able to find enough ways to say thank you."

THANK YOU ALL!!

Jim

Way to go Jim from Slidell. I recall your messages. As a person who posts regularly, it's so nice to get a trip report back from a traveler from the site.

Jim, welcome back! I am so glad that you had a wonderful trip. I too have found this forum so very helpful. I've traveled a lot and there is still so much to learn. I am happy when I can offer suggestions and experiences. It's "paying back" for all I've learned. How about posting a trip report of some sort? Would love to hear your experiences.

I too thank everyone for their thoughts, suggestions, and handy tips! We leave on the 13th of October for a two week tour and I too have spent hours reading everyone's posts. I will celebrate my birthday in the CT area! Will let you all know how it goes upon return. Happy Travels to All!

Hey Jim, You can start contributing by telling us especially me the names of the restaurants you ate at in Paris. The food you ate, would you eat there or that again... Be a good critic. I'll be going there soon. Have fun w/it. I have a vivid imagination!

Jim....I must say, no matter how you plan, and no matter how much assistance you may get, any vacation will end up being a pain if you can't keep up a smile, even when things go wrong. I think having your mother in law to pay you such a compliment shows you deserve the kudos for pulling this all off for the three of you. And we look forward your observations!

I got do much helpful advice by reading this web site starting about 2 months before our trip. It helped when our trains were delayed and did not make the tranfer. It helped when our luggage was lost on our way in a few days. It helped my husband save 1 1/2 hours buying a ticket for the coluseum. It helped in planing how to charge the battery for my digital camera. It told us about the Scavi tour under St. Peter's which we were lucky enough to get into. It helped me look for gift items in Venice, etc. etc. etc. Thanks to everyone for your advice these past few months planning our trip to Italy.

Jim - I too have appreciated your posts. I echo the comments of others - this is a GREAT planning tool. Just perusing the questions and answers gets me thinking about travel. We are headed to Italy on Monday and I have used this site just about every day for the last 4-5 months.

We are going with two other couples and my wife and I have done all the planning - I hope that we all have as much fun there as I have had planning the trip.
