Hi all! Leaving for Italy tomorrow, just in time for Travel and Leisure to suggest some up and coming restaurants to try in Testaccio. 1) is Testaccio recommended for a lone lady to travel at night? Streets to avoid? (Any streets in Rome to avoid, overall?) 2) what are the most common bus lines that go through Testaccio? Thanks,

Laura, I traveled solo and stayed in Testaccio September, 2012. My room was off of Viale della Piramide Cestia (main road). I walked alone, after dark and never felt unsafe. It was a local neighborhood, saw very few tourists. I used the Metro, Piramide stop. Sorry, do not remember bus numbers. Have fun!!! Great food in the area. Susanna

I stayed in the Testaccio area two years ago and feel it is safe at night. For bus information check out this website http://www.atac.roma.it/?lingua=ENG It's the official public transportation site and a lot of it is available in English. I found the trip planner to be very useful.
