Teseotur company wants payment by wire transfer - safe?

Hello,
I am going on a tour with a large group whose organizers I trust. But the tour company wants payment via wire transfer or PayPal with a 5% fee. I am leery of wire transfers.

Does anyone know Teseotur based in Orvieto? Good/bad experiences?

I would like to use a credit card that gives me free trip insurance and other coverage, but this way of payment seems to make that impossible.

Ideas, thoughts, workarounds?

Thanks, Lori

What is PayPay or is that a typo for PayPal?
Can’t you use your credit card with PayPal, thereby having the credit card protection and trip insurance. Is that worth the 5% that’s being passed on to you?

Is this a single-day tour or a multi-day extravaganza? There are chances I might take, for the sake of convenience, with only a small amount of money involved.

Unless we're talking a lot of money, the typical American bank would charge fees over 5% to wire money. I'm pretty sure the company TransferWise (which I haven't used) would charge less than 5%.

It's a 13-day tour, about 5000 euro. The fee would be 250 e to use PayPal. I think when using a third-party like PayPal you don't get the coverage of the credit card. I need to double-check that.

The coverage, including for my 83yo uncle, would definitely be worth it if indeed my card would cover through PP.

I saw some good reviews also, but with a wire transfer, I don't think there is any recourse if something goes wrong.

Yeah, I wouldn't be happy about wiring that amount of money. I guess I'd just think of the card fee as part of the basic cost. That's an awful lot of extra money, though.

If it gets my my card coverage, I'm happy with it.
I would normally be very cautious about not using my CC, no protections... but Rick even uses this guy, so I'll have to trust that he's not going to scam us.

Have you looked into getting travel insurance as well? We always do, since we began to have aging parent issues.

Transferwise.com has excellent rates and low fees - much better than I can get at my bank

Wire transfers pose the greatest risk of loss. If the tour operator fails to perform, you have very little hope of recovering your money. I personally would never take that risk with any company.
