Trying to figure out how difficult and efficient it is to transfer from Termini in Rome to Rome Airport (Fiumicino)
Any suggestions?
Take the Leonardo Express, leaves about every half hour and takes 32 minutes. Price around 14 euro.
Thanks One person on this forum suggested not taking the Leonardo for some reason! Anyway it looks like that's the easiest connection, as we will be arriving from Naples on a morning high speed train May 17th.
Can't imagine a better choice than the Leonardo Express straight between Termini and FCO. Quick, easy, and cheap.
I took the Leonardo Express last June and last September at the end of those trips to stay at the Hilton airport hotel since the flights left early morning. The Express is very easy.
Was the warning maybe about the time-of-day? I’ve only used it during afternoons.
I think you might be thinking about taking a regional train, which is only 8 EUR, but you only get these from Tiburtina station. Trains coming from Naples stop at Termini, and only stop at Tiburtina if they are continuing on to Florence and beyond. So this does not really apply to your case.
You could also take a bus, but then you would have to leave the station, find the bus and buy a ticket.
When you buy your ticket from Naples, you just specify Fiumicino Airport as your destination, then your ticket will have already the connection to Fiumicino included in the price. Then you just change trains inside Termini.
Thanks everyone
I really appreciate your thoughts. We will buythe ticket in Naples to include the airport destination. Thats a good idea.
We will be driving our lease car from Fiumicino and drop it off in Malpensa. We will be taking a train from Arezzo to florence and to Rome from Arezzo as well. Our thought is that visiting the larger cities it would be best to arrive by train than via car. Arezzo sounds like a nice place but there is not much written about it in the guides.
Sounds like there is a lot of expertise out there on this forum. So nice to hear recommendations prior to traveling.

Nigel, I bought this book before going to Arezzo in 2018 to attend their jousting festival and enjoy the city. I see it on our Amazon: “Buon Giorno, Arezzo”. A Postcard from Tuscany. It’s 175 pages and includes many beautiful photos. I felt like I was a lot more prepared (& excited!) after reading it.
Here’s the paragraph I wrote about Arezzo from that trip:
Arezzo - 2 days: this is one of my new favorite towns. I had wanted to see Arezzo, and since they have two jousting festivals, one in early September, I timed my stay to be there for it. (When I first stepped into Piazza Grande where they were practicing the day before, I was sad that my husband was missing such a special event that he would have loved!) I stayed at small De’ Montetini B&B, and the location was perfect. I enjoyed taking many photos in the medieval portion of Arezzo, loved the jousting event & entire day’s activities leading up to it, and the food in this city was wonderful. My B&B host wrote down a few recommendations for me, such as Antica Osteria dell ‘Agania, and they were all good. (I couldn’t believe how many locals kept coming into Antica Osteria dell ‘Agania the night I was there!) There’s also an antique fair each 1st Sunday of the month, so both activities were happening that day. Arezzo is also a good uphill workout to be ready for Montepulciano!
One funny incident - the festival fires a cannon at 7am to start the day. The night before during my FaceTime conversation with my husband, we came up with the idea to FaceTime again at 7am, so he could hear the cannon since my B&B was very close to it. Five minutes ahead of time we’re talking and all’s good. I open the window, so he can hear it better and thought I would hold the iPad slightly out the window…..except it lost the wifi connection just as the cannon fired - LOL!
