Termini station safety

That is the area we stay in. We think it is safe at least till 11 pm or so which is the latest we have been outside our hotel. You do need to take reasonable precautions but probably no great than in Singapore.

It's a safe neighborhood.

I stayed at a Hostel in the Termini area on a previous visit, and never had any problems at all. I walked to and from the Hostel (about a 7-10 minute walk) in both day and night. There are usually lots of other people around, at least until very late in the evening. Which Hostel are you staying at?

One point to mention though. Be sure you're wearing a Money Belt, especially when inside Termini and on the Metro or Buses (the #64 Bus has a bit of a reputation). There ARE petty thieves that "work" the station and the trains and I know some people that learned that lesson "the hard way".

I sometimes like to sit in the top dining area of the Termini McDonald's with a coffee and "watch the performance".

reasonably safe area. Stayed right near there once in a RS recommended hotel and it was fine. Just don't let anyone come up to you in the station and try to strike up a conversation while you're walking along with your bag(s); had this happen once, and have heard its a diversion pickpockets use to distract you.

There seemed to be a lot of people around the Termini (especially the front of it, not so much the back), so it felt pretty safe even at night. As everyone said, just be aware of possible pickpocketers.
