Termini Hotels

For our fall trip (9/17 - 10/5), my wife and I are interested in staying near the Termini station for three nights after we arrive and for three nights before we leave. I've emailed Hotel Aberdeen (full), Hotel Sonya (full on arrival), B&B Smart and Hotel Europa. My first question is, has anyone stayed in Hotel Europa? Then, Is there a recommendation for a similarly priced hotel (up to $150 or thereabouts) that's in a historic or classic building?

Thanks in advance!

Try Hotel Oceania, Hotel Nardizzi, Hotel Selene, or Residenza Cellini. The last one is more expensive but more in the setting you were looking for. I've stayed in the first three and thought they were all comfortable and classic buildings. I hope this helps some.

I stayed at the Hotel Selene prior to a RS tour when the tour hotel (Hotel Sonya) was booked and stayed in Nardizzi last Sept on the RS Best of Europe tour. I agree with Abe about them being interesting classical buildings with marble everywhere plus very nice staff at both.

BTW, I am also thinking that you need to know that in a classical building the ceilings are really high so you actually have 2 runs of stairs for each floor instead of one, so if you are walking up to the 4th floor you are going 8 flights. Whew. IIRC the Nardizzi had an elevator that went all the way up whereas there was something about the Hotel Selene and the elevator...maybe it didn't start til the 3rd floor or something? It was my first trip to Rome and 1st hotel so things are fuzzy.

Breakfast was more extensive at Selene in 2013 than in Nardizzi in 2014.

I stayed at Hotel Amalfi, about 800 meters from Termini station.
It was clean, good breakfast and very helpful staff. Termini is not my prefered location in Rome (Vatican is) but would definetely stay there again. Close to your price range.

I have stayed at the Hotel Sonya (on an RS trip) and Hotel Contilia - both were very nice, checked the rates at both and I would go back to either one.
Years ago my RS trip stayed at the Hotel Louisiana - also in the area of Termini - but if you don't pop for one of the more superior rooms - the budget rooms looked like dungeons.
