terme

I am looking for some hot springs. I don't want to go to a spa, want to sit in the river and cover myself with mud. At least that is what grdaught would like.

The only one I can find is Saturnia, outside of Grosseto.
Any suggestions where I can find more?

thnx

Well, I haven't been there but the island of Ischia is known for its thermal spas.

None of the terme's that i've been to in Italy have actual outside sit in the river mud treatments. Abano Terme is a town near Padova. http://www.abano.it/english/default.asp I've been there 2 or 3 times and really enjoyed it. They have famous terme mud and terme pools. There is one in Sirmione on Lake Garda.
There is also a great terme scene in Slovenia too.

Want a real fun one? On the the Aeolian island of Volcano you can sit outside in the sulpher mud baths.

They are re-nowned for ther curative properties.

We loved the Aeolian islands off the NE coast of Sicily. We stayed on Lipari, and took day trips on the hi-speed ferries to the other islands. Each island is totally different. The prices are very low for rooms and meals. One even has an active volcano, that you can sometimes climb.

We took a high speed ferry from Millazo out, and came back on the hi-speed to Messina. There are also overnight ferries from Naples that pass by the volcano in the early morning on their way.

Combining the Aeolians with some time in Sicily makes for a memorable trip!
