That sounds more like a forced march than a holiday. Drop one locale and spend 3 nights in each of the remaining places. You'll still wish you had more time!

Agree, drop CT, add a night in Florence, maybe a night in Venice and the balance in Rome.

I agree with the others. It's too much in such a short time. You can't really count your arrival day, when you are going to be tired, or departure day when you will likely have an early flight. Keep in mind that two nights in a location only gives you one full day. An entire trip of that will just allow you to check off boxes, but it will end up bing a blur. You don't say when this trip will occur, but I think you need to either add time or drop a location. Assuming it has to be 9 nights I would drop the CT and add a night to both Venice and Florence.

Fly to VCE. VENICE: 2 NIGHTS FLORENCE: 4 NIGHTS ROME: 3 NIGHTS
Fly back to the US from FCO This way you could visit the Cinque Terre as a day trip from Florence in one of the days you are in Florence. Leave as early as possible (if you leave with the 7am train you can be at the CT by 10am) and return with the last train (leaving Monterosso at 21:03). I know it's a long trek, but you don't have to change hotels, which is a time waster (unpack, repack, check out, check in). Also doing the Cinque Terre as day trip from Florence gives you the flexibility to choose to go to the Cinque Terre on a day when the weather is good. The risk with planning the Cinque Terre far ahead, is that there is the possibility that the 2 nights you have booked the hotels at the cinque terre the weather might be rainy. I can't think of anything more boring than a rainy day at the Cinque Terre. Rain should not be automatically ruled out in Italy, especially if you are traveling to Italy outside of the June - August period, which is generally (but not always) dry. From Florence you can also take day trips somewhere else in Tuscany (Siena, Lucca, Chianti etc.) if you don't feel like traveling as far as the Cinque Terre.

What they said. If you decide 4 nights in Florence, you might try taking the bus to Siena for the day. Assuming this is first trip, you will enjoy the Big 3 and CT can be a great place to visit for the second trip.
