Tell Me Where to Go!

Hello,

I need recommendations!! I have one more "boots on the ground" day and not sure where to add. We are flying into Palermo and out of Catania. We will have a car and do not mind a heavy itinerary. We prefer things like architecture, castles, forts, churches. vineyards, beaches and FOOD!! Not into art museums at the moment.

Add it to Palermo. It has a lot of great sites, churches, and good food. We spent 9 nights last year, 3 in Taormina, 3 in Siracusa and 3 in Palermo. Palermo was where we did not get through everything!

I agree with Lisa. We had four nights in Palermo and didn’t see everything we had planned.

Same. You can't have too much time in Palermo. There's something fascinating around every corner. Hit the markets!

Yes. You're painfully short on time in Palermo, known for architecture, food markets and street food.

I trust you have some side excursions planned for Trapani. I liked the town, and Erice is magical (if touristy), but 3 nights would be lot of time without other things planned. I know others have mentioned good possibilities elsewhere in that area.

I agree that Palermo needs more time as do Agrigento and Siracusa( Ortigia.) We weren’t fans of Taormina. Take a day away from Trapani. We spent a week on Ortigia( Siracusa) and did not want to leave!

Another vote for Palermo because nearby CEFALU makes for a great day at the beach! Cefalu is 50-train-minutes away.

We travelled by car in reverse to your plan, arriving in Catania and departing from Palermo. Did not go to Trapani, but we loved Palermo (you do not want a car there!), the Valley of the Temples at dusk was a highlight, and Taormina was a great base for a drive around Mt. Etna/visiting wineries. Cefalu was a miss for us — super touristy and unfriendly. Things you could do: stop at Villa Romano del Casale; stop at one or more of the Baroque towns, or stop at one of the nice beaches near Agrigento. Whatever you choose you will love Sicily. Enjoy your trip!

Two nights in Taormina? There isn’t even enough for one day. We saw it all in less than a day. We didn’t love Taormina but it was convenient and better than staying in Catania,m which we loved, but hated driving there. I haven’t been to Palermo, yet, but my wife, who spent 4 nights there during a friends trip several years ago said we’d need at least a full week to see everything. Syracuse I’d whittle down to two nights, at most. Ortygia is the only thing really worth seeing in Siracusa anyway.
