Struggling to find opera in August 2018 at Teatro Regio in Parma, one of Italy's most reknowned theaters, the home of Verdi. Hoping it's just too early to see what's on. Insight welcome.
It's out of opera season. The Parma Teatro Regio's first show of the season is September 4th.
That explains it. We learned of the nightly concerts, throughout the year, in Lucca at San Giovani Cathedral. Might there be less formal music events in the city through August? If so, how might we learn of this possibility?
There might be opera in Modena, Reggio, or Bologna, but the big houses are really Fall and Winter activities.
This website will give you a way to explore the opera schedules in Italy (as well as other countries). It may be a little early to find 2018 summer listings, but this is a start: http://operabase.com/index.cgi?lang=it
There's a large Puccini festival in summer near Viareggio. It takes place in an outdoor theater near Puccini's home at Torre del Lago. No doubt sold out for this year, but it's quite special: http://www.puccinifestival.it/en/
Actually the most interesting opera festival in August is the Rossini festival in Pesaro. World class performances. Opera houses are closed in August.
