I am wanting to book a transfer from our Airbnb near Piazza Navona to FCO for return flight to US (considering romecabs). My flight is at 10:20 a.m., so I need to arrive at the airport by 7:20. I have Google-mapped the driving time, but what should I expect for traffic if we schedule the transfer at 6:30? At 6:15? I know traffic can be unpredictable, but generally should I plan for time for heavier traffic that early, or no?
An hour should be fine
It’s never taken us any longer that that for early am flights
At that time of the morning it won't take longer than 30 min, 35 min top. Taxis can use bus lanes. So book it for 40 min prior to the time you want to be at the airport, and you'll be more than fine.
If you were catching a flight in the late afternoon, evening, then I would allow at least 45 min. because you'd be dealing with the commute traffic getting out of the city center, but in the morning you are going against the flow of traffic, and before 7 is early anyhow.
I agree that an hour will be enough time to get to the airport...especially considering the driving techniques in Italy :) You won't need an espresso to wake up after that drive!
We have stayed in that area a few times and have always had great success with www.suntransfers.com. Their website is easy to navigate with enough options to accommodate almost every need.
I agree that at that time of day, an hour will be plenty of time. You'll likely get there in 35 minutes. Be aware, though, that some transfer companies will require a pick-up time that is far greater than the hour that you'd like, even though the traffic is lighter in the morning.
