Hello. My mom and I will be staying in the town of Atrani on the Amalfi Coast and then heading north to Pompeii. I have done a lot of research on various ways to travel. My mom does have some mobility issues so I'm trying to figure out the best way to travel. I know we can go to the next town over, Amalfi, via taxi and take a ferry from there to Salerno and then a train from Salerno to Pompeii for pretty cheap but seems like a lot to do while having our luggage. I know buses are cheap but I don't think that is our favorite idea because we have a rollator and also expensive camera gear I don't want to separate with by putting luggage below the bus while in route. Is getting a taxi from Atrani to Pompeii a silly idea because it's so much more expensive? I'm trying to figure out what it will cost and I have read anywhere from $50 to $120! Does anyone have any experience with getting taxi's on the Amalfi Coast? Should I prebook one or just wing it? Are they easy to find between other Amalfi towns? Thanks in advance!
How about ferry for Amalfi to Salerno (season-dependent)? That would cut some taxi costs. Are you just stopping over in Pompeii? You'll likely want a taxi from the Trenitalia station to Pompeii--it's a 15-20 minute walk from Pompeii.
In my experience, taxis are something you need to book, not just grab.
Always ask your accommodations as well--I've often been given free rides in similar circumstances.
