Hello fellow travellers, we land at FCO Rome and the last time we did we booked a private transfer which worked well, however my husband thinks a taxi would be just fine ( may be the cost that has him thinking) My question is are the taxi lines long at the airport and whats the approximate cost,I think the private transfer look to be about 130 euros, we will be going to near the Piazza Navona
A taxi direct from FCO to your hotel is a fixed €55. Taxi lines could be long and slow, long and fast, or shorter - depends how many others are waiting to catch a cab. Ride is less than a half hour.
Another option is the Leonardo Express train, €14 per person. But that takes you to the Roma Termini station in 32 minutes, and then you need to get to your hotel from there. Again, that taxi line could be shorter or longer, and the fare could be €20 or so.
I think the private transfer look to be about 130 euros, we will be going to near the Piazza Navona. Huh, that seems too expensive. A year ago over Christmas holidays, we booked a private transfer through Smeraldo Hotel & I recall it was around E65 to E75, cash requested. Maybe you should ask your accommodation to book for you? It makes us feel better being met inside the terminal and not chancing a long taxi Q, but of course that's totally individual choice. Have a great trip!
These are both great answers, thank you, even though we only have carry on luggage and personal item bags I nixed the train only because of a very long flight and will be very tired and not too sharp when we arrive. Also the possibility of excruciating long taxi lines doesn't appeal to me. I have contacted our hotel with inquires about transfers as their website that I booked through mentions transfers. We will get there one way or another and thank you both for taking the time to help.
The taxi queue at Rome airport goes very fast in my experience, never had to wait more than 5 min or so before I was first in the line.
Wow more food for thought, everyone is so helpful, thank you
I am with Roberto -- been through the Rome airport a dozen times and never had a taxi line longer than maybe 10 minutes. Immigration is a completely different question. We usually get through in less than 30 and once it was 3 hours. Taxi is fine.
We have never waited more than a few minutes for a taxi
Make sure you go to official taxi rank-do not go with anyone before that offering a taxi
Get in line, wait your turn
Hand the driver your hotel address and confirm that their credit card machine is “working” or hand them 55 euros cash fixed rate
No tip necessary or required
130 euros is ridiculously overpriced
Thanks so much, taxi sound fine, the info on dealing with taxis is very useful and will make sure we use taxi line. i though 130 was a lot but it has been some years since being in Rome so had no idea what the going rate would be, really appreciate all this useful info, its going to make my husband happy
