Will be based in Villefranche-Sur-Mer for couple weeks in early March and want to do a day trip to Italy. We would rather not rent a car. Current plan is to take the train to Ventimiglia and from there I'm hoping a taxi is feasible to and from Dolceacqua. Any advice on this?
It's been a while, but my husband and I stayed in Ventimiglia and visited Dolceacqua. We took the bus but it's only 5-6 miles, so I would think a taxi would certainly be feasible.
I wanted to see Dolceacqua and a couple of other places around there and we ended up hiring Ingrid to drive us around in her Mercedes minivan. We stopped at numerous places as well - she helped plan out the day.

I highly recommend her. There were 4 of us splitting the cost so it was more reasonable. We did an 8 hour day with her - I think we paired Menton with Dolceacqua. The cost was 135 Euros a person - so 540 Euros.
This was in 2021 so the prices are probably higher now.
