Taxi from Naples?

We will arrive in Naples around 2 pm on May 17th headed for Hotel Onda Verde on the Amalfi coast. I see we can take public transportation, Naples train to Sorrento then a Sita bus / stop in Praiano(duration about 2 hours) or we can take a taxi from Naples straight to the hotel (duration 30 min cost 30 euro) I would much rather take a taxi to save 1 1/2 hours of time, if a taxi is reliable / safe / honest... any thoughts?

I would take a taxi, but even better I would pre-arrange a driver to meet you at the airport. I will be arriving at the Naples airport in late June and will pre-arrange a driver to meet me and drive me to Positano. It is definitely worth the extra cost!

Short answer: If the cost for a taxi is E 30, I'd take it. While the Circumvesuviana is cheap and safe, you're jammed like sardines and may have to stand (as I did for an hour from Naples to Sorrento.) To go to sites like Pompeii or Herculaneum, you're pretty much stuck with the Circumvesuviana, but the train from Sorrento is less crowded if your point of origin is Sorrento. When we went to the archeological museum in Naples, we took the ferry from Sorrento to Naples and a taxi to the museum. If you have luggage, though, and aren't strapped for cash, then why complicate your life with inconvenience if you don't have to! Best wishes

Debra, Of you're headed to the Hotel Onda Verde at Via Terramare, Praiano, you might want to look at directions via Google Maps. They are quoting a little more than a hour from Napoli Centrale. Perhaps the hotel is being a little optimist? I would suggest you arrange a private driver/shuttle as who knows what a 1-hour cab ride would cost.... unless you come to an agreed-upon price before leaving Naples... Again, for this type of journey, I'd probably schedule a driver.

One option is the bus from the Naples airport to Sorrento station (much preferable than the Circumvesuviana train). Then from the Sorrento station you could take a short taxi ride to nearby Praiano. Alternatively you could take another bus (SITA) from Sorrento to Praiano.
That could be cheaper than riding a taxi all the way from Naples to Praiano. The bus company from NAP airport to Sorrento is called Curreri: http://www.curreriviaggi.it/ Check it out. The bus fare from NAP to Sorrento is 10 euros per person. From Sorrento to Praiano with a SITA bus is certainly less than that. They also offer door to door shuttle service (check in the same website). From Naples to Amalfi coast they charge 150 euros (up to 3 passengers plus 12 euros for each additional passenger). If a taxi is truly only 30 euros, I'd go for it. That is a steal. But I think you misunderstood. I think 130 Euro is more like it. According to the fare schedule of the Naples Taxi consortium below, the one way flat fare from Naples to Positano is 120 euro and to Amalfi is 130 euro (it might be more from the Airport). Since Praiano is between Positano and Amalfi it has to be between those two figures. http://www.consorziotaxinapoli.it/chi-siamo/tariffe/

Thank you for the great advise. Especially about the bus...that might work better than the train! Yea, I might have misunderstood, or maybe several people pitched in and the taxi was 30 euro each....? Next question, I see there are several bus tours along the amalfi coast. Any one in particular that is recommended over another?
