We are a family of 5 flying to Rome by the end of June. I understand that taxis cost 40 Euros from FCO to Rome for up to 4 people + luggage. Are there taxis that can accomodate 5 people + luggage such as mini vans? Thanks
Nearly all taxis will be very crowded if not impossible for four and luggage. Five is out of the question. You can prearrange vans. Rome Limo has been previously recommended but there are others.
Here's one shuttle company recommended by a reputable Rome travel site. Ron in Rome might have others.
Do you need a taxi? There's a train right at the airport that goes to Rome's central train station.
At 11Euro, it will cost 55Euro for 5 on the Leondardo Express to get you from the airport to Rome Termini. Add in the cost of the metro or taxi from Rome Termini to your hotel and you can use that as a comparison on obtaining transportation in a larger vehicle (which you will need to do). The shuttle will take you directly to your hotel.
Last year our hotel arranged a private transfer for 6 of us plus lots of luggage for 70 Euros. It sounds a lot but on a cost per head basis when compared to a train to Termini and 2 X taxis to the hotel was in fact the cheaper option. And of course a door to door service. They used a minivan.
Look on Tripadvisor for a recommended company and compare prices, there are some less reputable companies around.
We used Blue Car Service yesterday to transfer from our apartment near the Colesseum to FCO. It was 50 euro for four with luggage.
Thank you all for the valuable suggestions. I did a bit more research and found that one can take the Roma Airport Shuttle at 35E/1 + 6E for each additional passanger for up to 14 people or a Mini Van for 60E for up to 6 people (http://www.taketaxi.com/)
