Taxi from airport to Trastevere after midnight?

My daughter and I will be going to Rome in a couple of weeks and will arrive at the Fiumicino airport around 12:30 am. We figure it will be close to 1 am by the time we get out of the airport. We've been told that the best way to get to our B&B in Trastevere at that time is by taxi (maybe the only way). Does anyone know about what that should cost? Just so we know if the price is fair or not.

The price is fixed at 45E for daytime hours. I thought it went to 60 at night but Michael could be correct. Just ask the starter before you get in.

Thanks! As long as we have a rough idea of what it will be, we can be prepared.

I hadn't thought about the late hours. Also, I believe Trastevere is technically outside the city walls, so the flat fee might not apply. Just ask the driver first. Good luck.

It is a flat fee of 45 Euro to Trastevere. I'm not certain what the nighttime up-charge would be, if any. Will there be someone at your B & B to check you in at that hour? It's been my experience with B & Bs that they are usually staffed for the first half of the day and you have to make special arrangements to check-in outside of those hours. I usually have my B & B arrange a car to be there and pick me up at the airport when I arrive. I usually arrive around 9 a.m. however. The same 40 Euro rate should still apply. If you find your own taxi, make certain that you hail one at the official taxi stand and confirm the price before you get in.

Scott makes a really good point about your very late arrival time at the B&B and the possibility of being locked out on the street with your baggage at 2am. Hopefully you've already nailed this down with the B&B. You won't want to just assume it's 24 hour staffing as in the US, you don't want to be locked out on the street at 2am, it has happened and is not a good way to start off your trip.

Here's a helpful hint from the Univ. of Washington page for students traveling to Rome: ARRIVING FROM FIUMICINO AIRPORT BY TAXI Get a cab from the taxis that line up in front of the airport. Don't accept a ride from the cab drivers who solicit inside the airport. They usually have unmetered cabs and charge a fortune. Comune di Roma taxis charge a flat rate of €40 to go from the airport to the centro storico (historic center, or downtown) and Comune di Fiumicino taxis charge a flat rate of €60. You must pay in cash, but tipping is not mandatory. Make sure that the driver knows that you know about the flat rate, since many try to turn on the meter, thereby charging up to twice as much!

I would arrange a car with a service like www.Romecabs.com. You will know the rate in advance and not have any surprises. There can sometimes be a difference between what the rate should be and what the rate a taxi driver will charge.

The owner of the B&B knows what time we will be arriving and said that someone will be there to meet us. I will check into reserving a car though. We don't want any surprises at that time of night, as soon as we arrive in Italy! It would be one less thing to worry about. Thanks!

On June 1st the day time fixed taxi rate was raised to 45E. Don't know about night time rate.

Well, I emailed romecabs.com to see what the rate would be and received a reply that they "do not provide service at 1 am." So I suggested that they update their website, since it says they operate 24/7. I guess we'll just use a cab and make sure what the total is before we go.
