I am arriving in Rome on Monday with my family of 5 (2 teens and a child) and am wondering how costly a taxi would be fron the airport to the Adler Hotel (near the train station). also, are there taxis that even accomodate 5 people? I am fearful that we will be too exhausted to navigate the train station. The hotel wanted 80 euro for a driver; i thought that was kind of steep.
I have always taken the train into Rome from the airport--but I notice that Rick's 2006 Italy book (a year or more out of date) gives a cost of 40E for a taxi TO the airport from hotels in the center; he doesn't give a cost of a taxi FROM the airport to the center for some reason.
sally,
Try http://www.romeshuttlelimousine.com/FiumicinoE.htm 50 euro for five people. I have used them and been pleased.
Five people usually will not fit in a taxi. A taxi will cost 40 euro, the train will cost 55 euro, depending on the age of the child.
The cost of a taxi is the same to/from the airport. However I doubt 5 people will & luggage will fit in a taxi. Take the above poster's advice and arrange for a car in advance. Romecabs.com is also a good option. I prefer the private car services as sometimes taxi drivers like to play with the "fixed" price. It avoid any hassles at the end of your trip when the price has been determined in advance.
I also have a family of 5 people, I got a quote of 60 euros from Romecab.
