I was in Orvieto Saturday for the Cathedral orchestra concert that gets on national TV on Easter days. Due to the guideline "follow locals when they are going to eat", we went to lunch with a couple of old Cathedral maintenance workers that were helping us. They brought us to their friend, the owner of an old trattoria a bit on the seedy side. Being with friends we got the royal treatment, I lost the count of pitchers of Orvieto white wine after the fourth one.
While we were honoring our antipasto, two Japanese came, apparently a father with his daughter. As they sat and ordered, our friendly workers began commenting on them.
"In the land of white wine they are eating salami with coca cola".
"Shows lack of respect".
"Government should better stick a tariff over their tourist tax".
