TAP Air - Alitialia Connection Time - FCO

Hi everyone,

I am flying from Lisbon to Bari, but I have made a rookie mistake and booked the two legs separately. I am flying Lisbon to Rome with TAP Air, and Rome to Bari on Alitalia. At the time of booking the flight from Lisbon I knew we would be going to Italy, but not sure where so could not the next leg. Probably should have waited...

The changeover is at Fiuminco, and there are two hours between the two flights. I am concerned, however, that there will not be enough time for me to collect my bag from the TAP Air flight, and then check it in on the flight to Bari.

Could anyone with experience advise as to whether or not my concerns are reasonable?

Furthermore, TAP and Alitalia are code-sharing airlines. Indeed, if I search the route on each website, the exact same flight comes up Although I have two booking numbers, would it be possible for me to ask for the bags to go straight to Bari when I leave Lisbon? Assuming I will already have my check in details etc.?

Or, am I just better off booking a flight which departs Fiuminco much later in the day?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have not done that journey.

As you have already purchased the tickets, I would contact TAP and ask if your checked bag can be tagged to Bari when you board the Lisbon flight.

If not, can you manage to condense to carry on baggage only?

There are flights at FCO that park away from the terminal and are serviced by buses. If that happens with either ( or both flights) your time gets really tight. If the 1st flight is late the excitement factor gets really intense.

If you have to have checked bags and cannot get them checked all the way to Bari from Lisbon, I would examine the options for a flight with more than 2 hours gap.

Good luck

Or take the train! That's what I did. Fast train about 4 hours direct. So much less stressful. You get to see some wonderful Italian countryside.
