Taormina, Sicily or nearby town - 2 nights for 1 couple - June 27 - 29

Any suggestions on a place to stay in Taormina Sicily would be appreciated. My husband and I will be in this area June 25 -27 . We will have a car and need parking. We can walk to parking if necessary.

Alternatively, if you have suggestions to stay elsewhere nearby that may not be as high profile as Tarmino but has a balcony with a nice view of the ocean and a town with some restaurants, we certainly can be flexible.

Thanks,
Maryanne

A Sicilian I chatted with at Monreale recommended Acireale to me. I didn't have an opportunity to go there myself, having already visited the eastern side of Sicily, but I've since checked the Wikipedia entry, which lists a lot of sights, and Googled for photos. It looks like a good option to me. There are at least 25 trains per day to the Taormina-Giardini rail station below Taormina, some of them fast regionals taking less than half an hour. Catania is 10 to 20 minutes away in the opposite direction, though with somewhat less frequent service.

There might also be some bus service from Acireale directly up to Taormina, but I haven't researched that.

We stayed at Hotel Bel Soggiorno, Via Pirandello 60, Taormina. It had free parking. It’s about half way up the hill between the beach to the historic center. Parking can fill up. On our arrival day we got the last spot. From it one can walk to the historic center in 10 minutes. The hotel itself is older and the rooms fairly basic, but we enjoyed it.

The hotel has some great views of both the water and Mt. Etna. It had a very nice breakfast buffet.

Stay in Taormina or perhaps Giardini Naxos, at the bottom of the hill.

We stayed in Acireale a few years ago and don’t think it’s what you’re looking for. Very sleepy town.

I love Taormina! Check out the Rates at the San Domenico Palace featured in the HBO White Lotus. It is a Four Season's Resort with gorgeous views. You only live once. Best of Luck!! Maria G.

Depending on the level of luxury you are seeking, we can recommend Casa Cifali. Our room was simple, attractive and functional. Location is good, near both the Greco-Roman Theatre and Lumbee parking. Hosts were kind, helpful and provided spot on recommendations.
