Early Planning here. We're planning a trip to Sicily from Dec 25-Jan 1. I would like to have a "home base" for the first few days in either Siracusa, Taormina or Catania. Any recommendations? Concerned that a lot of things (restaurants, shops, hotels, etc.) would be closed in Taormina during that time. Thanks
FYI, Palermo has the warmest weather in Sicily. It is also a very vibrant city. Many streets are decorated with lights at Christmas time.
Just between Taormina and Giardini Naxos, at the bottom of the hill, they have over 20,000 permanent residents. Why would they close the restaurants? Besides it's a popular tourist destination even in winter. Siracusa is nice too. I am not super fond of Catania, which is a larger city, but anyplace will work.
