I’ll be in Taormina for one night early Sept, wondered if anyone had attended the outdoor opera event and if they enjoyed it? Also looking for a suggested hotel as I’ll be arriving and departing from the train station, travelling solo. Thank you!

Taormina is high above the train station.
I recommend our hotel, Hotel Villa Schuler. We spent two nights in Taormina, more than enough time for this over touristed destination.

It's been a long time (like 15 years!) but the outdoor opera was a highlight of our trip to Sicily. The passion for opera was palpable and everyone was very dressed up. We sat on hay bales, next to a very elderly man in a 3 piece suit, with a pocket flashlight for the score and for three+ hours (Madame Butterfly) he followed along note and word for note and word!
Emphasizing it was a long time ago. And a gorgeous summer night with a full moon- hopefully you will get more recent experiences!
