Taking Minor to Italy

I’ll be taking my grandsons to Italy in August. The youngest is 17. I have found forms online to have notarized giving me permission to take him out of the country. My concern is whether that will serve as permission for his leaving Italy as well. Has anyone had experience traveling to and from Italy with a noncustodial minor?

In addition to making sure you have documentation to show you have permission to take him out of the country, be sure you have documentation to show you are authorized to make medical decisions on his behalf. Just in case of accident or illness. I'm assuming the other grandson(s) are of the legal age of majority and such permissions are not needed..

The forms are there to try and stop child abduction. This is why these forms are about giving permission to take a child out of the country they reside in. In cases of child abduction it can be difficult/impossible to get a child back to their home country once they have been taken. Returning with a child to their home country isn’t an issue. Especially not if you have the forms to prove you were allowed to take the child out of it in the first place.

and it goes without saying that they need individual passports with some time left to run too
