We are considering taking a ferry from Livorno, IT to Corsica. Traveling into Livorno Centrale same day by train. Can anyone tell me how much time we should expect to get from the train station and board the ferry? Is there a bus from the train station to the ferry port? Or do we need a taxi? Once at the ferry port, are there long lines? How promptly do the ferries depart? etc.. Our train is scheduled to get into Livorno 1.5 hours before the ferry is scheduled to depart. Is this sufficient time?
Thanks!
There are buses, but not direct - a taxi would be your best option. There's a building you go into at the port to exchange your online vouchers for actual tickets. 1.5 hours is cutting it a bit close - a train that arrives even 1/2 hour earlier would be a better option.
That's what I was afraid of. Thanks Inbsig!
I visited Sardinia last fall and was thinking about taking the ferry but thought it too much of a hassle and it wasted too much time. I don't know from where you'll be traveling to Livorno but you can catch flights from Pisa, Florence, Bologna and most other cities. Flights take a little over an hour. If you want a great ferry ride, take a day trip from Santa Teresa Gallura across the strait to Bonifacio at the southern tip of Corsica. Fantastic views of the chalk white cliffs as well as the islands of the Madelena Archipelago. Unbelievable sunrise if you catch an early ferry. A beautiful harbor, impressive fortress and wonderful boat tours along the the white cliffs. If you want any further info about Sardinia or Corsica, send me a pm.
Thanks Phillip, that does sound spectacular. It's a bit far south for this trip, though, as we're wrapping up our planning. We're going to try a shorter ferry trip to Elba Island & Porto Ferraio. Ciao!
