Taking a child to Rome

I was wanting to pre-order tickets to sites in Rome (probably the Roma pass) and was wondering if there are any sites that a 4 year old is required to have a ticket? Does anyone know for sure before I book the tickets?

Can't say for sure for a child that young but my daughter has been let in for free or reduced prices (@ ages 9 and now 10) since we've been here. You can easily get the Roma Pass when you get to Rome. TI's and any place, I believe, that accepts it sells it. If I'm not mistaken if you pre-book it you have to pick it up at a certain location which could turn out to be more of a hassle. It took us about 5 mins. to get ours at a TI.

Technically your children do not get a discount because they are not from the EU or any of the countries with a reciprocal agreement. That being said, the ticket agents may not charge you for his/her entry based on their age. The only site that will definitely give your child free entry is the Vatican museums. Be prepared to pay at all other sites and if they don't charge you just consider it a small gift. Donna

I was told when I called for a reservation that my toddler had to have a reservation to get into the Borghese Gallery. It would be a free ticket, but since they let in a limited number of people every 2 hours, she gets included in the count.

Yes, even those who qualify for free entry must get a ticket. It keeps track of the number of visitors each sites has per day. It's even more important at the Borghese since it's capacity controlled for safety issues. Most sites will have an area that allow you to include those who get free entry. If you are calling sites for tickets or reservations let them know you'll have people who qualify for free entry. Donna
