Taking a cane on airline

If anyone has taken a cane on a plane would you comment on any advice or problems? (I know hiking sticks are only allowed in checked bags.) These are foldable and telescoping canes. I’ve scoured the airline pages and nothing specific. Am resisting the hour on hold involved in a call. Thanks very much.

Some people are able to get hiking poles into carry on....but they have only rubber tips, no spiky bits....and sometimes it depends on the agents.
A cane is a health aid and should not be denied. Use it in the airport at the vital check points. Then, fold it up and pack it if preferred. Again, without a spiky tip.

Same here. It's a medical device, not sporting goods. If I take one for my bad knee, I will make a point of showing it to the TSA person at the screening point and asking if OK. Mine will fold to fit inside a carryon, but I'll keep it out so it's not concealed. Never been denied. Mines a cheapy so if I have to give it up, I won't fret. But note you can always buy one over there if necessary.

We just returned from a trip to Anguilla. We flew American. I had no problems with taking my walking cane anywhere. It is a metal Hurrycane. If you have to walk through a metal detector, they will hand you a nonmetal cane, run yours through the scanner and give it back to you. You should have no problems no matter what airline you fly. I also requested a wheelchair when I booked the air. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to keep up in a busy airport, not to mention getting bumped by people in a hurry. I highly recommend getting one. Hope this helps.

I travel with a Leki walking stick like this: https://www.amazon.com/LEKI-Wanderfreund-High-Fives-Walking.

On travel days, I collapse it down and slide it onto the outside of my carryon as I don’t need it to transit an airport. It goes right through security as part of my luggage.

My Leki has done 3 trips to Europe like this, one to Israel, and one to Mexico. I’ve also done dozens of US flights with it.

Although I’ve always been prepared to defend my trusty Leki, I have never been asked anything about it.

Mine came with a rubber tip over the metal tip, but you can always acquire an additional tip if yours is metal. I think it’s less likely to get any questioning at all that way.

A cane, as opposed to a walking stick, will always be allowed. I've been flying with mine for over 2 decades and have never had a problem. As previously described, the cane needs to go through the screener, and you will be provided with a (usually) bamboo cane to use while going through the metal detector (or scanner). On the plane, either fold it up and stow in your carry on or leave it extended and place at your feet and under the seat in front of you.

Many thanks for the helpful comments, glad the cane won’t be an issue.
