Take drivers license if I'm not renting a car?

I'm not going to be renting a car. Is there any reason for me to take my drivers license with me on my trip? Is my passport sufficient identification at the US airports? Etc. Thanks.

I take my license in case I want to rent an audio guide. They always ask that you leave some sort of identification as a guarantee that you'll return the audio guide when finished. I would rather leave my DL than my passport. Donna

I'd take it as it is a form of ID. And if your passport was stolen you'd have an ID at the US Embassy at least. But your passport is sufficient identification in the US and abroad.

Assuming you're planning on taking trains instead of driving??? That's a good idea unless you happen to be in the middle of one of those major rail worker strikes. Then what are your backup plans? Maybe a rental car - but only if you have a driver's license.

I find a drivers license to be a handier form of ID with fewer consequences of losing than a passport. I typically leave my passport back at the hotel, taking only my DL, ATM card, CC, and a little cash. Best to have some type of ID when wandering around.

I recommend taking your driver's license. It's good for ID when someone asks for it to register at an internet cafe or in case they want to see ID when you use a credit card. Also as mentioned when you want to rent an audioguide. I think using a drivers license for these things keeps your passport safer.

I would take the license anyway. A few years ago in Venice we toured LaFenice Opera House and the license was required to insure you returned the audio guide.
