Hi, we're trying to get from Syracuse to Agrigento. It appears this would be two legs: From Syracuse to Catania, and then on to Agrigento. When I check the SIAS bus website, it lists numerous options for Catania, but they are all grayed out and I can't do anything with them. I've seen elsewhere on my searches that there are only 4 trips a day on this route. Has anyone been there recently or on the ground there who could give me any advice? Thanks, Paul
Looking at Rome2rio.com looks like the 2 buses are the fastest. There is also a 2 train option. Sorry no personal experience since we’ve only driven. How long will you be in Sicily?
Sorry not much info but when I was in Palermo and Cefalu there were all sort of day packages offered by small travel agents.I was mad at myself for not picking up some of the pamplets but I think there are many day trips from Catania. Maybe a tourist office could help you. I used half of a round trip package from Cefalu to Lipari as public transportation wasn't working. I did have a great train ride from Agrigento ( totally unforgettable amazing) to Cefalu.
I've been investigating the same trip but keep coming up with long bus rides . . . very long bus rides. Now I'm looking at taking the train from Syracuse to Palmero and staying there for a few days. The train ride is a little over 3 hours. No, I can't forgo my time on Ortigia - that place is very special. Anyway, from Palmero to Agrigento is a couple of hours by train or by bus and the schedule is frequent in both directions. I've never used them before but rome2rio.com was a quick source of information for both train and bus schedules. On my last trip (stopped by the pandemic) I looked into renting a car in Syracuse and driving. Looked interesting but I'm re-thinking the car rental idea.
Our train experience was pre-covid but great from Palermo to Agrigento and return to Cefalu.
If you are going to Palermo, it’s much easier to get to Agrigento from there.
Easy by train.
We did it in April.
