switching airlines after US flight into Rome FCO

I will be arriving in Rome on Saturday morning, April 8th on a Delta flight. I then need to get to Ryanair for my next flight to Palermo. I have 2 hours to accomplish this. What should I expect when going through customs and retrieving my luggage?

My last experience was that bags came out slow. We waited about 20 minutes after getting off the plane.
The only other problem is if Delta is late arriving you may not make it.
You may know this already but you arrive at Terminal 1 and have to go to Terminal 2.

That is too tight. But probably too late to tell you that. The last time we arrived in Rome, off a Delta flight from New York on a Saturday it took over two hour to clear immigration. Only two officers working the lines with probably a half dozen flights arriving about the same time. The bigger risk that you run is that the discount airlines often cut off check-in about 45 mins prior to departure especially if checking luggage. I do not know if Ryanair does that. You will need to have a plan B.

If changing flights is not an option, then the best chance to make your connection is to cut down what you are packing so you have only carry on luggage.
