I read in Rick Steves book that anyone can swim into the Blue Grotto for free after 6pm.. Has anyone done this or seen others doing this?? Is it safe? Thanks

Hi Greg,
Yes, you can swim in the Blue Gotto once the boats are finished for the day. I have done it on numerous occasions while staying in Anacapri.... it was definitely one of the hightlights of my trip. When you watch the tourists being hauled from a boat to a small row boat.... and they are in and out in a matter of minutes... it is not how I wanted to do it. I waited until the end of the day and could stay as long as I wanted. Please pay attention to how rough the water is before going in the grotto... one time I went in the grotto, the water was quite rough and the waves were filling the opening of the grotto... had a bit of difficulty getting out.... just hang on to the chain and it will help you get both in and out of the grotto.
