Swimming in Monterosso

I know the beaches are crowded, but what is the swimming like in Monterosso, CT? Some places talk about snorkeling. Is it worth snorkeling? What was your swimming experience?

Rachel, I've never been swimming there, but I've certainly been tempted on a couple of hot afternoons. Some of the beaches are "pay-per-use", but there are also free sections. It's difficult for me to swim, as I usually travel solo and don't want to leave my clothing and towel unattended on the beach. I've never been snorkeling there, as there's no way I want to haul that type of kit around on trips. There may be rental diving equipment available, but I've never looked. Happy travels!

There were jellyfish outbreaks along Italy's coast in 2006 and 2008. Supervised beaches should be posted, with a purple flag, if dangerous jellyfish have been seen. Can;t find any information on outbreaks since 2008. There was the usual spring invasion of "le barchette" in Monterosso this year, in late April. these are non-stinging and have been cleaned up: http://www.rebuildmonterosso.com/2012/04/tale-of-jellyfish-and-jungle-gyms-and.html If you want to do some snorkeling, you might try th edeep-water swimming spots between Manarola and corniglia (closer to manarola than to Corniglia). There are several access points from the coastal trail along there. WE enjoyed the swimming but did not think to bring snorkel gear

My husband snorkeled a bit in Monterosso, and though he always has fun, it wasn't the greatest place ever. He also snorkeled on Santorini, Mykonos and Katakalon that trip, and of these four, his favorite was Mykonos because of the rocks. In Monterosso, we went to a beach in the south part of town, rented chairs, and had a great time swimming and enjoying the fruit-veggie-pizza-bread & wine we bought at a market in town. Jan B
