No. Sweden and Italy are both part of Schengen. If you travel between any of the Schengen areas there are no immigration checks. You go through immigration in the first Schengen country you enter. Here is a list of the Schengen countries: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_4361.html However, you are mistaken about England. If you travel between England and one of the Schengen countries, you will go through immigration.

Wow! Thank you for the info. I traveled from England to Belgium to France many years ago and did not have to go through immigration & customs. I took a flight from London to Brussels and a train to paris and never had to go through anything. did it change in the last 15 years? anyway thank you so much for the info. I really like the site you sent me. It is very helpful. Thanks again Darla

Perhaps you did not notice immigration (passport control) between London and Brussels because it went so quickly. I'm pretty sure it existed 15 years ago. I know between 1999 and 2000, I was travelling between London and Brussels almost weekly and I went through passport control every time.
