Supermarkets or grocery stores in Rome and Sorrento

Dear travellers, We want to follow RS' advice about getting food from larger markets which he says are often hidden in dept. stores. Can anyone direct me to one in Rome near the spanish steps or in Sorrento anywhere?
Grazie, grazie.

I don't know about Rome, but there are 3 fairly big supermarkets in Sorrento. Try this website: sorrentoinfo.com there is a whole bunch of tips and includes maps so you should be able to find the ingredients you need.

There is a hidden supermarket within a ten minute (or less) walk from the Spanish Steps. It is underground in a tunnel that goes from the Spanish Steps past the underground metro stop - follow the signs for Via Veneto. There are several branches in this tunnel - some go under the busy streets and emerge in Borgese Gardens. It's wonderful to explore. The branch that contains the supermarket emerges at the top of Via Veneto near Porta Pinciana.

There's a good supermarket in Termini (a Conads's I think). NOT at Spanish steps but a quick metro ride away. There's also an SMS a few blocks from there.

When I need a supermarket, I ask someone nearby. I am constantly amazed at the number of large food markets we can find in Europe.

Wherever you are, just ask. People like to help lost Americans.

I've stayed at the Dei Borgognoni Hotel near the Spanish Steps, which has a nice-sized grocery store next door. The hotel's address is Via Del Bufalo 126, Rome, 00187.

What is the name of the supermarket in Rome? The only one I found was Spar near the Trevi Fountain. There are no signs in Rome. You either know where it is or happen to walk right by it.
