Super Green Pass For Italy

A Super Green Pass is now required to get into venues, restaurants, bars, etc. in Italy. Does anyone know how US travelers can obtain these passes prior to our travel to Italy?

Your CDC card should be accepted. Make sure the booster was given within the previous 6 months.

For Italians residing abroad and visiting Italy there is the possibility of getting the green pass by going to the local health district office (ASL - Azienda Sanitaria Locale) and present the documentation (CDC card + Passport) then one will receive the message on the smartphone with the QAR code. I'm not sure that would work also for non Italian citizens.

In this case, once the AUTHCODE code has been received, which is sent by the Ministry of Health within a few minutes of registering the vaccination with the ASL, the user can retrieve the Certification from this site by accessing the recovery section with health card (Recupero con Tessera Sanitaria) but selecting the second option "Utente senza tessera sanitaria o vaccinato all’estero" (User without health care card or vaccinated abroad) and then inserting the AUTHCODE code, the type and number of the document presented to the ASL.

I believe however that the CDC card is still an acceptable document.

In California we also can get a sort of Vaccination verification similar to Italy's Green Pass by going to the site below and entering the info. Other States may have similar verification means (check with your State). I don't know if this would be accepted by Italians, but along with the CDC card it might give the potential police officer or restaurant staff an additional level of comfort.

"I believe however that the CDC card is still an acceptable document."

That's true, along with an ID. We scotch taped our cards in our passports on our recent trip. The green pass, which simply indicates that someone is vaccinated, requires getting vaccinated in Italy. That not being possible, equivalent documentation from the home country is acceptable. A couple of restaurants would not let us in, insisting on a Green Pass. Luckily I had printed out the regulations in italian and that convinced them.

Earlier this month we spent a week in Rome. We showed our passports and CDC cards at every restaurant, museum, tour, etc. and were always granted entry. This also included outdoor dining.

Probably the confusion the poster above encountered is what is seen all over Europe. A new wrinkle is add to the requirements, business owners all of a sudden become hyper-vigilant, even misinterpreting the requirements.

When Italy introduced the "greenpass" last year, at first there were a number of reports of restaurants declining the CDC card. Over a couple weeks, those reports went away and people seemed to have no issues. When they started to require a "greenpass" for fast trains...same thing. Now with increased "greenpass" requirements, the same thing seems to be happening.

The only comfort I can give, is that after the first two examples, we were in Italy, and by then things had settled down, they still would examine the CDC card, but later in the trip, just pulling out our US Passport would get us waved in.

There have been similar reports from the Netherlands, France, Germany, at least of those I have seen or experienced.

Roberto regarding this: "Your CDC card should be accepted. Make sure the booster was given within the previous 6 months." Does the 6 months window need to be for day entering Italy or for inclusive dates of whole trip? We travel in March and boosters were in September, so it's close! Can you point me to where this is stated?

@SharonJ It has been reported in Italian news that the 6 month booster requirement will soon be waived barring new guidance from the EU. Stay tuned.

The law is currently for 6 months for the 3rd dose. It has not been changed yet but again in this morning's paper it is mentioned that an extension is expected since a 4th dose isn't required yet and the first Italians boosted will have their 6 months come up mid March. Hopefully the decision will happen sooner than later.

I’ve been reading that on February 1st, we may see a change to the 6 month rule.
