Super Economy and 1st Classe? Is this economy or higher class service?

I’m trying to figure out if we are truly in a higher class of service in 1st class or if it is coach class?

It's a discounted fare for advance purchases, not a class.

A SuperEconomy ticket can't be changed or refunded, but you'll travel in the same car and you'll stay in the same seats of the local guy who purchased a full price BASE ticket at the counter 15 minutes before the departure.

I guess you are using trenitalia.com/tcom-en, the official site. Click the small grey "i" to open i-nformation windows.

It's your choice, but if you make a search on youtube you'll see that lower classes on Italian trains are better than economy classes on most flights. Italians say that only tourists, politicians and businessmen waste money in 1st, all cars arrive at the same time.

Voting with Dario here: we only travel 2nd class on Italian trains and been FAR more comfortable than on any coach seat on a plane. Seats have plenty of room, and most journeys are not long enough to need any extra premium services. As he said, "Super Economy" has to do with ticket price and conditions regarding that ticket versus class of carriage.

Second class is the way to go 90%+ of the time. But if you plan to prepurchase tickets, be sure to check first class and business class fares, as occasionally there are cheaper Super Economy fares still available after all of the second class Super Economy tickets have sold out. Italo trains use slightly different names for their discounted tickets, but it's very similar. That's my one exception to always traveling second class.

High speed trains have 4 classes in Trenitalia. Often, Standard Premium costs a few euros more than Standard. However it is also often much emptier.
