Super Bowl 2010 - Is there somewhere to watch it in Rome?

Sports fans! Does anyone know if there is somewhere to watch the Super Bowl (Feb. 7, 2010) live in Rome? I'm afraid to say that the timing of our vacation is going to depend on this. Any tips are appreciated!

I cannot give you a specific place but there are a number of what we would call sports bars in Rome and I am sure the game will be available. And, of course, it would be available in most hotels via cable. It will come at a very late hour and mostly will be available on a delayed basis also.

The game won't start till midnight or later Europe time. You won't get the pregame show on Europe chanels. You could check online at the NFL website to see if you can watch it online (for a fee). Then you could bring your labtop and watch the game on that if your hotel has internet. We've done that with baseball. But if it is really that important, plan your trip around it rather than waste a day or two of your trip being grumpy because you couldn't see the game.

Claudia - there are a few sports bars in Rome that will carry the game. It will start after midnight and last year was over about 5 AM (Yes, I stayed up and watched it). If you are staying in a hotel, contact your concierge or manager and they will tell you the sports bars near you. Be prepared to have them call you a taxi... Two years ago I watched it in Trastevere (Last year I had a slingbox and watched it from home!). I think the Abbey Theatre near Piazza Navona did show it last year... same place I watched the World Series one year.

The NFL website does not work here in Italy (at least not the last two years) as you will have an Italian ISP and they have international agreements (Trust me I tried many options before finally purchasing a slingbox!). It will be shown through an Italian "channel." Good Luck!

Jim, you just don't appreciate the important things in life. Our son and DIL scheduled their wedding for the first Sunday in February in Costa Rica when the bride's father suddenly realized that the wedding would be on Super Bowl weekend. The wedding was quickly moved to Saturday. In the scheme of life some things are just more important than others.

I don't understand why the game would be on after midnight in Rome. Doesn't the earth stop spinning on its axis so the whole world can stop to watch the game?

I have had a particular knack for scheduling my kids birthday parties during "really important games" and even felt bad about it, until I realized that they are all "really important games." I would hesitate to schedule a trip in late September/early October on the off off off chance the Cubbies really get there. If they were in the World Series, I'm sure I'd have to fly off on my own.

It is unlikely that the game would be shown in Italy.
There are few fans of American football in Italy or Europe in general. There could be some American hangout
that has TV access but the hours for live viewing would be ridiculous

The Super Bowl is absolutely broadcast in Italy and most other places on the planet; even the BBC shows the Super Bowl(without commercials!). It's one of the most watched events in the world. Most people in this country aren't into soccer yet ABC shows the WC final live every tournament. In fact, from what I understand last season the bowl was carried for the first time by the state broadcaster RAI. In previous years it was carried by private satellite/cable channels.

I know that there is an Italian guy who is this crazy Steelers fan and he's the owner of a Pittsburgh sports bar near the Piazza Navona. I'll have to ask my sister the name and I'll get back to you. I know that last year my sister watched the game in his bar.
