When is the optimal time to drive through Tuscany to see the blooming sunflowers and poppies??

Hi Carla, I was once in the Tuscany/Umbria region during the last week of April and first week of May; there were poppies everywhere, but I don't remember seeing any sunflowers. Don't know if I was in the wrong area or if it was the wrong time. The poppies were beautiful all by themselves though:)

I believe the sunflowers are in bloom during the summer because we were there at the beginning of September & we saw fields of dead sunflowers so I assume they had been in bloom in July or August.

Saw the poppies in May and the sunflowers in July. Don't think they both bloom at the same time. Reasons to return!

Yep. Poppies in spring, sunflowers in summer. There were loads of poppies when we were there in mid-May 2008. Also beautiful was the bougainvillea at that time.
