Sunday morning transport from Atrani to Salerno

Hi all -

I have a bit of a logistical snafu that I need some help with. We have to catch a 10:00 am train in Salerno on Sunday, June 15. We are staying in Atrani. When I sat down to book our travel from/to Salerno, I've discovered I might be up the creek here. Ferries don't run until 9:30 on Sunday, and based on the available SITA schedule I've been able to find, a 6:15 and an 8:00 are the only options.

The 8 am would be fine, but I have heard horror stories about SITA. The 8:00 am "supposedly" gets to Salerno at 9:15. I am very worried about relying on this mode of transport to get us to a train we cannot miss, based on what I've heard about reliability.

Does anyone have experience with this bus line? Or can you suggest alternatives for getting to Salerno on a Sunday morning, such as a private transfer? I know they're pricey, but we may not have an alternative. It will be much more of an issue if we miss our train.

If anyone has recommendations, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

You would think that the SITA bus on a quiet Sunday morning would do the trick reliably, and that would be the end of it. We've used SITA twice (and satisfactorily) on two different trips, once roundtrip Sorrento/Positano, once roundtrip Salerno/Amalfi-town, both times in early March, so off-season. Dirt cheap (like 3 Euro) & actually a lot of fun. But we didn't have to be anywhere at a given time.

But remember on June 15 you will in the throes of high season, so anything goes. PM me if you want the name of the driver we're using next month. We're being picked up at our hotel in Salerno, then driven to Vietri sul Mare, Ravello & Minori, then back to Salerno, 6 hours worth. He's not cheap at all--captive audience on the A.C.--but this guy comes highly recommended.

You could hope for the SITA to be there for you, but I guarantee you'll be worrying about it for the next three months. Get a driver and be done with it. It shouldn't cost you more than 75-100 Euro max, for what should be about a 30-40 minute drive.

Enjoy your planning!

I agree with planning for a driver that day. Sundays are unpredictable for public transportation. I had a train that didn’t show last year on a Sunday.

If you’re taking the SITA bus, go for the 6:15. Is this “train you can’t miss” on route to catch a flight?

NOOOOOOOOO

Oh that's dreadful. I'm sorry that happened. Our train is a long distance haul to Venice - and it's not like there aren't other trains, but this one is a direct high speed with no changes. I'd very much like to keep it. :) Jay has convinced me to get a driver - your seconding that sentiment eliminates all guilt. Thank you!
