I have to spend Sunday in Rome...arrive early AM and leave late afternoon. I would like to sit outside and watch people. Maybe buy some clothes. I like nice urban residential areas. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Sunday in Rome is no different for the most place than any other day. I'm responding to your Headline! For just one very short fday. I'd probably go to Piazza Navona for people watching. I don't know what kind of clothes you have in mind, but Campo di fiori has the tourist kiosks that sell multiple t-shirts, etc., Don't know if it's open on Sunday. With this short schedule it's unlikely you'll have time to both shop and people watch.
Sit in any piazza and you'll get in a lot of people-watching.
If it's a Sunday in July, there are major sales on clothing and some stores are open on Sunday.
For people-watching that includes locals, you might enjoy a walk through the park at Villa Borghese, grab a park bench every so often, then follow the signs to Pincio, take the footpath down to Piazza del Popolo for tourist-watching.
