My husband and I are meeting our son and daughter-in-law in Florence for 7 days and then on to Rome. They can only stay a couple of days (Friday and Saturday- fly back to London Sunday) but we are thinking of staying until Tuesday for an extra couple of days before joining them in London. What can we do on Sunday and Monday in Rome as we notice many things are closed? We'll try and do as much as possible Friday afternoon and Saturday - any itinerary ideas would be so appreciated. Thanks- Meme from Illinois
Yes, there are a lot of closures in Rome on Monday. But not many closures on Sunday, the most notable Sunday closure is the Vatican Museum (except last Sunday of the month but it's packed then). Rick gives detailed itinerary recommendations in his two books, Rome 2009 and Italy 2009 (which also covers Florence). Giving an itinerary for several days in Rome is beyond the space we have here, getting a guidebook will be a good $25 investment in your trip.
