Summer Italy Help

I'm going with my family to Italy this summer (May 25-June 13). We have a villa rented in Tuscany for a week, will go to Rome for 3 days (including Pompeii) and then we want to go to the Veneto region for 3 days....So, Venice in early June- go, don't go, go as a day trip but don't stay there? Go and stay? I've heard so many horror stories of Venice and the cruise lines/summer tourists. What would people suggest based on their experience? My initial plan was 2 1/2 days in Venice + day trip to Padua/Vicenza, etc on train line, but we are not hustle and bustle tourists. My husband and daughter are both artists, so we want to enjoy culture too.

Someone on this site posted a link to find out when ships are due to dock in certain cities. Sorry I can't find it right now, but I know someone else will remember.
I think they also list how many passengers per ship. All good info for us......but of course I can't find it right now - hope someone on this site knows where to look.
Happy Travels

it is pretty far between cities on your planned itinerary.. You don't say where you're staying in Tuscany, but I think it is about 175 miles to Rome from Florence. Rome to Naples is 150 miles and you take another train toward Sorrento to get to Pompeii. Venice is 150 miles northeast of Florence and a long way from Pompeii.
Rome is a 4 day minimum city and trying to see Pompeii would be difficult given the time allotted.
My suggestion is to take it slower and see fewer cities better.

I think I would skip Venice and add your time to Rome, especially if you plan to spend a day going to Pompeii. Three nights (is that what you plan?) in Rome is not enough for Rome itself, much less Pompeii as well. Stick with Tuscany and Rome.

Less is more.

Agreed, Venice would make your trip rushed. It would require too much logistical effort for too little time in situ. Save it for another trip. As it is, you only have a couple of days in Rome as your side trip to Pompeii will take a full day. And Rome has endless things to see and do.

If you want to see someplace a little different to add to the mix of Tuscan villa / Rome / Pompeii, you have plenty of choices without going very far out of your way: Florence of course, Arezzo, Montepulciano, Orvieto, ...

Are you flying home out of Rome? Or where?
