Suggestions on where to stay in Chianti area

My favorite is Panzano. Located in the heart of Chianti on the "Chianti Road" (S222). Panzano is about 30km from Florence and 30km from Siena. S. Gimignano, Volterra, Greve etc. are all accessible for day trips. The countryside is spectacular. Panzano has loads of great restaurants - try Solociccia (operated by the most famous butcher in Italy) and Enoteca Baldi. The wineries are also a lot of fun - be sure to visit Volpaia and Panzanello - if you contact them ahead of time you can even arrange a luncheon or dinner with your tour. Loads of villas are around Panzano - we usually stay at Villa Il Palagio (www.infochianti.com) - very comfortable - well appointed and clean clean clean. Have fun.
