Suggestions on lodging outside Rome for two nights

Currently in Tuscany, we are leaving from Venice on a cruise 5/28/15. Three of us will disembark at the Rome cruise terminal 6/9/15 in the AM. Two will fly from Rome to Budapest 6/11/15 and need lodging for two nights in a interesting area OUTSIDE of Rome. Need two rooms; a B&B, apartment, guest house or agritourismo will be great, up to $100 per room per night. We will have a car (the third person is driving to the Alps in case you wondered) so are able to get around easily. Previously have spent lots of time in Rome and prefer to avoid the crowds. We will appreciate suggestions please ASAP! Thanks!

There are Rome airport hotels that offer shuttle service into the city. roninrome.com has some suggestions on his website.

Frascati, a short drive from Roma and lots of character for two nights. I stayed at Hotel Colonnade, very comfortable, but there are several properties with onsite parking.

Or Bolsena, a little further away.

Ariccia is south of Roma in the Castelli Romani. It is very close to Castel Gandolfo, the Pope's summer residence. The town is famous throughout Italy for its Porchetta Romano, whole pig packed in salt and rosemary then baked-it's great. We always stay at the quaint B&B Melograno. We've stayed there so often we are now good friends with the owner, Rita Bovi.

Nearby is a hill town called Nemi, which overlooks one of the three extremely deep volcanic lakes. This small town is gorgeous and they are famous for their fragolini (tiny strawberries).

Buon viaggio,

Orvieto isn't terribly far away--and you could see it, Civita Bagnoregio, Todi, and other pretty villages.
