A few of us are planning a trip to Italy this summer. Does anyone have suggestions on guided tours or particular guide companies they used for touring Vatican City and Rome. More specifically in Rome- the Colosseum. We appreciate any suggestions! Thank you in advance!
We just returned from Rome recently and had Silvia Poggiani and she was a great guide for the Colosseum/Forum and Vatican City. She charged the four of us 60 euro an hour which is standard I think, the tour was three hours for each place which we did on two different days. It was a good price for us compared to paying for a group tour. I highly recommend her, especially touring through Vatican city which I wouldn't have wanted to attempt without a guide. Silvia's email is [email protected]
Hi Cassie -
Additionally - and more economically should budget be a concern - you may reserve/purchase spots in group tours directly through the Vatican and Coopculture (for Colosseum) websites:
For the Vatican (I recommend the 3-hours Museum+ basilica tour for efficent passage between both):
https://biglietteriamusei.vatican.va/musei/tickets/do?action=booking&codiceLivelloVisita=12&step=1
You may also reserve € 5.00 tours of the Colosseum. This must be done via phone, or you can see if there are openings when you get there although reservations are recommended. This price is IN ADDITION to regular entry tickets which cover the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine. You could kill two birds and pre-purchase your tickets +make your reservations over the phone at the same time? Pre-purchasing tickets will eliminate standing in the long ticket line but not skipping security queues.

Thank you Kathy and Ashley for your suggestions!!
Our group is not on a budget for Rome:) We felt there was so much history and sites to see we didn't want to limit ourselves! This is our first time visiting Rome so want to get all we can out of our tours! We had a few tour comp. previously suggested by friends, but didn't get great reviews online. We will for sure look into these recommendations! Thanks again- we can't wait to explore this beautiful city.
I used Carla Zaia, [email protected] , recommended by Rick Steves, and she provided our group of people 8 a wonderful tour of the colosseum, forum and palantine hill. The cost was 60 euro per hour and worth every dollar. I had been to these sights before, but did not understand what I was seeing until this tour.
