Suggestions on great destinations to go to from Venice in the winter? HELP!

I am planning a trip over New Year's for about 10 days and I am flying in and out of Venice. I was planning on staying in Venice for New Year's but would like to go somewhere else for about 4 days... any recommendations? I was looking at Tuscany, but I am not clear on what the best way is to travel there (train, etc) and which city is the best place to stay? Is 4 days even enough time? Any other suggestions on great places to go for 4 days from Venice in the winter time?

Florence, Florence, Florence! Just about a 3 hour train ride, direct...and what an amazing city. Could also add a day trip to Siena via bus while there. Buon viaggio!

I agree with Gio. Florence is beautiful. You can book a 1 day bus trip to Siena and San Gimignamno through expedia.com for a great price. The guide was great and we had a wonderful time.

Florence would be wonderful during the holiday season and you could daytrip to a hilltown or two.

Again,
Florence is the place to go. It won't be as crowded. You can take the Eurostar right into the main train staion. Tuscany is very nice in the winter time. It may be a little cold, but you can always spend your chilly mornings rambling around the Uffizi or climbing to the top of the amazing Duomo. Be sure to go to the Boboli Gardens (behind the Pitti Palace). Day trips are very easy by train or bus from Florence. I highly recommend the beautiful, walled city of Lucca. Siena, as mentioned above is also an easy day trip - for this I recommend taking the bus for a peak into the little towns and villages that are along the way. Wherever you go,have fun!
